I have a love/hate relationship with fake tan, I love it, my sensitive skin hates it. I can put up with smelling like a packet of digestive biscuits for the cause but itching from head to toe was starting to get on my last nerve and everyone around me. I’ve tried many fake tan brands over the years, but nothing has quite ticked all the boxes. A few reviews of Isle of Paradise caught my eye as it’s 100% organic, free from parabens, sulphates, mineral oils & phthalates. As I still didn’t know what was irritating the hell out of my skin, I decided it would be a good start.
The mousse is transparent, so was slightly worried it might be a disaster without a colour guide. I was pleasantly surprised by it’s gorgeous floral fragrance which made a nice change from what seems to be the standard sickly, coconut scent. I have to admit I didn’t exfoliate 24 hrs before and moisturise dry areas as suggested, because I’m just plain lazy, which makes me a challenging consumer.
Application was easy using a mitt which took seconds, mainly because I couldn’t see the usual tide marks from a tinted mousse that I spend ages trying to blend, blend, blend. The only advise I followed from Isle of Paradise was to eat some ice cream, watch a movie and don’t get the tan wet whilst it develops...easy!
These are all the boxes it ticked for me : A golden natural tan, no orange tone no colour transfer onto sheet or clothes, no streaks, no smell, long lasting (1 week), fades gracefully (not patchy), no skin irritation.
So is it value for money? Absolutely, my tan looked like I had a week in the sun rather than out of a bottle and it faded gracefully over 2 weeks without looking patchy. Most importantly my skin had no issues with the ingredients and I've remained bronzed and itch free since September. It’s price may seem a little high end for a tanning product, but in this case you really do pay for what you get and it literally does what it says on the tin. It's GlamGeekClaire approved ✅
